Reptiles evolved from amphibians during the Carboniferous. With the arrival of the cold, dry Permian, they were well-adapted to survive because of their development of a shelled,yolk-filled egg which could be deposited on land without danger of dryingout.

Cockroachesfirst appeared during the Pennsylvanian epoch.

Fungi!
Fungal fossil diversity increased throughout the Paleozoic Era with all modern classes reported in the Pennsylvanian Epoch. Although the first positive identification of Basidiomycetes isinfossil material from the Pennsylvanian epoch in the midöCarboniferousperiod some 300 million years ago, it is believed that these early fungiwerenotdecomposer organisms.

DivisionPteridospermophyta

This extinct division includes all of the so-called "seed ferns". While the leaf structure of seed ferns superficially resembles that of true ferns, they are notclosely related. While there are many subtle morphological differencesbetween the two groups, the most glaring is that true ferns reproduce usingspores, while seed ferns produce pollen and seeds.
