The Paleozoic Era (245-544 mya)

At the beginnning of the Paleozoic era, multicellular life mushroomed producing virually all the living animal phylums in a few million years. At the end of the era, there was a mass extinction wiping out nearly 90% of the marine life. Most of the limestone quarried for industrial and building uses formed during the Paleozoic era, as well as much of the world's oil supply.The life and geology varied greatly within sections of the Paleozoic, as it spanned roughly 300 million years.
