GN F-5 No. 1102 assists P-2 No. 2513 on the east slopes of the
Cascades. The date is probably early 1924, as the P-2 was completed
in October 1923, and the P-2 tender carried the Great Northern
lettering, but no GOAT. Additionally, engines 2512 to 2517 were
reportedly fitted with boosters and air operated smoke deflectors
in 1924, on assignment to the Cascades. This type of helper service
was typical of operations in the Cascades. The train is believed
to be the Oriental with old consist cars in view, however it could
be the Glacier Park Limited. Photograph from Warren Wing, in the author's collection.![]()
