My Version of the Good and Bad on the Web
GOOD SITES
The Texas Education Network (TENET) The Texas Education Network is a site that I am most proud to share.
I am currently working here as a Graduate Research Assistant. At TENET I am working with a Web Development group that maintains our site. We
have a commitment to making our site the best we are able to offer. That means we are consistently challenging ourselves as well the resources
that we used to make a better web presentation. We are dedicated to having a balanced site that is informative, inviting and attractive. It is one great
site for educational resources on the web. The state of Texas is proud.
The Chronicle of Higher Education The Chronicle of Higher Education's site is a guaranteed must for anyone in graduate level
education. This comprehensive site is maintained daily with a level of efficiency that is hard to match. It is one of my favorite sites to visit.
The Hot 100 Websites This site is accesible in the current format or by easily selecting
the preselected national origins that are listed. From here you can go to a list of sites of interest. Sure this is a commercial site, but I have only witnessed
small amounts of advertising. No annoying blinking, flashing animated graphics to ponder through. The use of light backgrounds is also a compliment to this site.
Consumer World Consumer World is just exactly what it says...Here one can get lost and spend numerous
hours visiting the terrific off beat sites of "FREE" stuff. Although I have submitted my name, address to a few of these mail free trials I have yet to receive
my product. I hope I didn't "sale" myself cheap!!! Well, this easily navigatiable site is easy on the eye and clarity of information is balanced.
USA Today It's the online version of the World's most read newspaper. Sure, it doesn't have the splash of color like the printed daily
but it comes very close. This online magician has just gone a revamping of it's home page. Not much has changed in the way of the news is delivered, but the layout has gone through
what many of the other online daily's are projecting. The use of an index border to highlight specific areas of interest rather than the index table has become a new staple.
This is one of my favorite sites, its updated throughout the day with the latest news highlights, there is even a convenient time stamper present.
BAD SITES
M. Stokes - Home Page This is a great example of what a home page should not look like or represent.
Creativity at its very worst. Although the idea of having java scripts running, lots of frames, audio is compelling how much can one take on the visual spectrum. There is no balance
of information represented. There is plenty of good ideas good bad running loops and flames abound the real estate of the web. Enter and travel carefully here.
Adobe Adobe the masters of photo manipulation. They have a wonderful and interesting site, but enter this web and the fun begins. For some
strange reason this group loves indexes, tables and multitudes of indecies...Try to go somewhere directly ...you may not get there...
Downloading is fun as long as you have the time to wait...:)
Brainstorm's What is actually going on here?!# I don't know and really don't care, this is just an awful site enough said.
Anyone that can convince me I need to spend time here is wasting my time.
Pepsi World Pepsi..the soda company has obviously been watching too much MTV. Look at this crazy site and tell me that they have hired a bunch of
school aged childred to design this virtual galatic oddity. Who would want to navigate a site that looks like the interior of a space ships' directional system. Let me think, Pepsi...soda...
thats it...!!! ...Navigate slowly...but I wouldn't suggest you drink another beverage while at this site..it may cause nausea.
All 4 One - Search Engine Search Engines...search engines...can't get enough of them at this frame loaded web site...
Who needs to search 4 at one time...And the crazy thing is that they don't even return the same or near the same information. Goes to show you who develops these spiders of the web.
Tell me ....please tell me..why must I go frame crazy....enough said...?
