Eartha Kitt

This alluring vocalist enjoyed a series of pop hits in 1953 and 1954, including the seductive Yuletide perennial "Santa Baby." Kitt's exotic style was first showcased in the Broadway production of New Faces of 1952 (a film version was made in 1954), and she waxed the enticing "C'est Si Bon" in 1953 for RCA Victor. "Santa Baby" arrived in time for the 1953 holidays, and her 1954 output included "Somebody Bad Stole De Wedding Bell (Who's Got De Ding Dong)." Kitt has remained active as an actress and singer; she was a convincing Catwoman on the campy mid-'60s TV series "Batman," and she costarred in the recent movies Pink Chiquitas and Erik the Viking. ~ Bill Dahl
