Cleo Laine
Cleo Laine started recording in the 1950's and a recent re-release proves
her talent sprung fully developed. Her multi-octave range is phenomenal.
She of any other singer could be said to match the precision and vocal
prowess of Ella Fitzgerald. Her recordings are many and all are worth the
listen, if not the collecting. Her show stopper is a duet with her husband
arranger John Dankworth, he on the saxaphone and she on her pipes. The
high notes seem to blend and at times one cannot tell where the saxaphone
ends and where her voice begins, a truly remarkable artist.
