Marilyn Moore

Marilyn Moore has been called the "white" Billie Holiday. Billie Holiday is reported to have pushed her recording on John Hammond saying sheíd personally "kick" Mr. Hammond if he did not sign her. If imitation is the highest form of flattery then Ms. Moore certainly flattered Billie. Mooreís voice is sweet honey and cream. It grabs the listener, leaving them to wonder if they put on a Billie Holiday record by mistake, so close is the voice. Her rendition of the Beatleís "Hard Days Night" is a collectors item. If you can imagine Billie Holiday singing it you are close to what Marilynís recording sounds like. She is another singer who is woefully underrepresented. Except for a Japanese pressing of her 1960ís album(which unfortunately is out of print), the only records available are the one or two tracks included on compilations.
