Helen O'Connell started with the Dorsey band and at the start seemed to enjoy popularity, but not with jazz enthusiasts. Her delivery was at times playing on the comedic and indeed succeeded at the role which later was undertaken by people like Martha Raye. Her singing was limited by her vocal range but after going solo she developed into a great singer. The start of her career was the 40's but her effective era was in the 50's recording for Victor. These recordings are currently released under the Hindsight label on compact disc.
