A pop vocalist with strong jazz leanings, excellent pitch, and flawless rhythm, she was originally part of a trio with her sisters. Stafford then joined Tommy Dorsey's Pied Pipers group, singing behind Frank Sinatra's tenure with the band. After going solo early in the '40s, she married bandleader Paul Weston and racked up over 80 hits between 1944 and 1957. Of particular interest are her comedy recordings with Weston (as Jonathan and Darlene Edwards), where Stafford deliberately sings off-key over Weston's terrible piano playing. Great fun, especially in light of their formidable talents. ~ Cub Koda
