Doris Day

Though better known for her film roles and All-American Girl image, Doris Day was a professional vocalist from her teens and enjoyed pop stardom as a lead singer with the Les Brown Orchestra. Critics still dispute whether she was truly a jazz singer. She was certainly no improviser, but she was effective on light novelty fare and innocent tunes of the '40s and '50s, as with her Oscar-winning hit "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)". ~ Ron Wynn
