Another Duke Ellington canary, Davis performed the "Creole Love Call", "Transbluency" and other voice as instrument compositions. She spent her time with the Ellington orchestra and is a rare find on compilations and collection albums. Both she and Adelaide Hall were Duke's vocal instruments of choice in the early days and helped usher in the vocalese and scat singing genre.
