Time Out Istanbul 1.1 was put together as a personal obsession during the summer of 1995. Unfortunately the heavy academic load of senior undergraduate life did not allow me to make any type of correction or improvement after the site was uploaded to Duke University WWW servers.
There are several hyperlinks that point to nowhere, or point to wrong places. Some of the pictures are corrupted due to some error in the FTP transfers. There is also a great problem with the gamma levels of the images due to scanning the images in a non-gamma corrected environment.
The textual information is quite sparse and has typos. Though the picture collection is unmatched by other similar services on the Internet. The graphical user interface design used is "interesting" but as soon as the novelty wears of it becomes annoying. The design also makes it hard to get from one historical location to somewhere else in Istanbul.
There is no text only version, and the general layout of the pages maximizes the loading time. I would say that this site is offlimit for people using modems to access the Internet.
Still many people have sent many encouraging messages over the last year, and this year I will probably try to mend most of the weaknesses mentioned above.
