The first resource to be examined is the Center for Disease Control’s HIV/AIDS Web page. The CDC has allocated a specific site for their Division of HIV AIDS Prevention unit. The site is (located at http://www.cdc.gov/nchstp/hiv_aids/dhap.htm) found through several links from the main page. It is accessible but not without searching. Once found the information is current however there are "under construction" postings on several of its branches. The first point of access presents a window with frames which loads slowly on a 14.4k bps modem connection. The content of the information ranges from technical medical text to language for the lay person. The site is therefore found wanting in the area of accessibility. There is some sluggishness added it appears as a result of using frames in the delivery. Too many graphics also plays a part in increasing the loading time for each page. However, it provides many links to other HIV/AIDS resources including the CDC Clearinghouse which contains databases as well as to government funding opportunities.
