This is a brief survey of HIV/AIDS information delivery on the World Wide Web. The sites were evaluated in two major areas. These being accessibility to the audience it addresses and format or rather the structure of the web page itself i.e. how it presents the information. The audience was determined from the content of the information delivered, while the form was evaluated using criteria of Web page design, functionality and ease of maneuvering. The survey was done as a means of providing useful data to the HIV/AIDS community by highlighting a sites strengths and weaknesses. It is also of use to the design of future providers of information sites.
In the HIV/AIDS community the need for current information about treatment options, new medications, and available resources is critical. People with HIV as well as their caregivers are in a race with time and obtaining information to allow life decisions to be made is vital. The following information providers were located by running a search on Yahoo a World Wide Web search engine. They were grouped into three general areas. These were national, local and international. Further, the international locals were limited to the Americas to obtain a sense of Spanish language resources. Each site will be examined individually using the criteria previously mentioned followed by a summation. Finally a concluding assessment of all will complete our survey.
